GK Chesterton
I have been looking up more on one of my favorite autors- GK Chesterton. He was a rather philosophical and satirical writer in England in the early 20th century. I really enjoy his light whitty social and political sutff. He also wrote some beautiful literature regarding the spirituality as well. I find that reading his writing makes me think and that't the idea isn't it? YOu may find I will refer to him from time to time here. I found this poem he wrote very interesting and thought I'd share it.
A Hymn
G.K. Chesterton
O God of earth and altar,
Bow down and hear our cry,
Our earthly rulers falter,
Our people drift and die;
The walls of gold entomb us,
The swords of scorn divide,
Take not thy thunder from us,
But take away our pride.
From all that terror teaches,
From lies of tongue and pen,
From all the easy speeches
That comfort cruel men,
From sale and profanation
Of honour and the sword,
From sleep and from damnation,
Deliver us, good Lord.
He continues, but I found this bit striking and appropriate even close to a century later.
