Anything religious may be persecuted on the ground that it is not rational.....?

"It is not merely that anything religious may be persecuted on the ground that it is not rational. It is also that anything irrational may be tolerated so long as it is also irreligious. It is only lunacy to assert religion; it is no longer lunacy to deny reason."

The Persecution of Religion
by G. K. Chesterton
Illustrated London News March 8, 1924

I recently watched Ben Stein's documentary- Expelled (expelledthemovie.com). I found this quote to line up nicely in defining the mentally of some of the "scientists" he interviewed. Richard Dawkins was more inclined to side with alien life forms seeding the beginnings of life on earth than the involvement of an Intelligent Designer (read: God) and another guy said life could have developed on the backs of crystals. It seems that in science, only that which is related to religion is "irrational" everything else goes.

The documentary was...ehhh....ok and I've read some things about the "rest of the story" of some of his cases he presented that make Stein look a bit disingenuous. You never know who to trust (expelledexposedcom). Overall it was an interesting look into what goes on in the ever-so-evolved minds of the scientific powers that be (note: sarcasm).
